Chirgilchin, a group of three talented throat singers, perform with their voices and home made instruments from Tuva, a Russian providence North of Western Mongolia. Throat singing is a type of overtone singing commonly practiced by nomadic herdsman who often on their travels, couldn’t carry large instruments with them. Instead, they would entertain their families by singing. There are three styles of throat singing; Kargyraa is the very low sound, sygyt is the very high sound, and chomei is the most basic of the three, made with constrained false vocal chords. Can you identify these differences in this collection of traditional Tuvan folk songs?
