Look out Balkan Beat Box, Slavic Soul Party's just entered the radio station of Bloomington's WFHB!
Teknochek Collision is the name of their latest release, and it was named after a Queens auto repair garage run by a Serbian-Gypsy-American filmmaker. The 9 members of Slavic Soul Party find inspiration from the 5 boroughs of NY, to the former Yugoslavia’s small town brass festivals. The band formed out of NY’s downtown jazz scene and they strive to evoke feelings of Balkan brass music. “We have aspects of hip hop in our sound. We have some unique pulsating grooves and low brass and use more space than a band from the Balkans.” Many of the compositions are originals and they play from the, “New Orleans second-line tradition.” As an original analog sound system, the music will get the party started and/or keep the toes tapping. All tracks are instrumentals unless noted otherwise.
